Because Our Toddler Thought Toothpaste Was Dessert

We’re parents of a curious three-year-old. Like most toddlers, she loved her toothpaste a little too much — half brushing, half eating. It’s considered okay… but we weren’t comfortable. Even “baby-safe” pastes are full of ingredients we can’t pronounce. So we went looking — and found an old, simple recipe from Sadhana Forest, Auroville. It worked beautifully. No foam. No chemicals. No worry.

Safe Tooth Powder You Can Trust

You will need:

Food grade Calcium Bentonite clay 100g
Cloves 10g
Cinnamon 7.5g
Fennel 5g
Cardamom 2.5g
Common salt 1 Tablespoon
Tea Tree oil 1-2 drops

  1. Blend the spices into a very fine powder and strain them through a flour sieve with a small mesh — this helps remove the fibrous bits of cardamom and gives a smooth texture.
  2. Mix the spice blend evenly into the clay along with 1 tablespoon of salt.
  3. Finally, add 1–2 drops of tea tree oil, mix again, and store in a dry glass jar (avoid metal containers — Bentonite absorbs metals).

Use 1/2 tea spoon to brush once a day.
That’s it — safe, simple, and effective for both babies and adults.
